A waist trainer is made of latex or neoprene with cotton, spandex and other fabrics/materials. Like other clothes and undergarments you wear, the waist trainer also gets dirty and it requires cleaning time to time.

However, you can wash your casual clothes by hands with detergent or throw them into the washer/washing machine, some special clothes need a dry clean but none of these washing/cleaning methods are suitable for waist trainers.

How to Wash a Waist Trainer in a Safe Way

The waist trainer can give best results when you wear it for several hours a day. However, wearing a sweaty and dirty waist trainer can give you bacterial infection and skin irritation. That’s why the waist trainer experts recommend to wash your waist trainer time to time.

I have found the safest way to clean a waist trainer that you can apply on your waist trainer to keep it dirt-free without damaging it.

Things You Need to Wash a Waist Trainer

In order to clean your waist trainer, you need some stuff that I am telling you in advance. So, you should get all things ready before you start the waist trainer washing process. The important things you need for washing a waist trainer as given as under.

  • 1 bucket
  • 1 body soap or mild shampoo
  • warm water
  • 2 soft cleaning clothes or towels

When you have all the above things handy, you are ready to wash and clean your waist trainer in a safe way. There are two methods for cleaning a waist trainer and I am going to explain both the methods in brief. You should read each method thoroughly and follow any one method to wash your waist trainer.

Wash a Waist Trainer with Wipe Clean

The wipe clean method is the safest way to clean a waist trainer and it also saves your time. Moreover, the waist trainer won’t take too long to dry after washing as you are going to wipe it with a soft cloth and not going to soak it into the water. Kindly, follow the simple steps given below to learn how to clean a waist trainer with wipe clean method.

  1. Get a clean bucket and fill it with lukewarm water.
  2. Add some body soap or mild shampoo and mix it with water.
  3. Gently put your waist trainer on a flat, clean surface and keep the waist trainer open.
  4. Get a soft cloth/towel and dip it into the soapy water bucket.
  5. Now, wipe the whole surface of your waist trainer with this wet, soft cloth.
  6. When one side of the waist trainer is done, flip it and dip the soft cloth in the soapy water again.
  7. Wipe the other side of your waist trainer with wet cloth and make sure both sides of the waist trainer are cleaned properly.
  8. Get the other soft cloth (unused) and wet it with clean water. Then wipe your waist trainer with the clean, soft cloth on both sides.
  9. Make sure that your waist trainer is cleaned properly and you have not left any soap residue.
  10. Hang your waist trainer in an open space where air circulation is good and wait for it to dry.

Wash a Waist Trainer with Dip Clean

The first method I have shared above is the best way to clean a waist trainer at home. However, sometimes your waist trainer is so dirty that you think it won’t be cleaned with the wipe clean method. In such circumstances, you can wash your waist trainer with dip clean method but you must check its instruction manual carefully before doing so. If your waist trainer material is not suitable for dip clean process then don’t take such a risk as it can make the waist trainer useless.

  1. Take a big bucket and fill it with lukewarm water and add/mix some body soap or mild shampoo.
  2. Open your waist trainer and dip it into the water bucket.
  3. Let the waist trainer soak up some water and dunk it up & down several times.
  4. Get the waist trainer out and empty the soapy water from the bucket.
  5. Fill up the bucket with clean water and then dunk the waist trainer up & down again.
  6. Get the waist trainer out and DON’T SQUEEZE IT as it can permanently damage it.
  7. Hang the waist trainer in an open space where air circulation is good and wait for it to dry on its own.

You cannot put the waist trainer in dryer and that’s why it will take longer to get dry. You should not wash your waist trainer with dip clean method if its material or fabric is prone to get damaged easily with water. The wipe clean method is the safest way for cleaning a waist trainer and that’s why it is recommended by the waist trainer experts.

How often should you wash a waist trainer?

You should wash a waist trainer 2 to 3 times in a week. According to me, the need of washing your waist trainer depends upon how often you are wearing it.

For example: If you wear your waist trainer 4 to 8 hours a day then you should wash it at least 3 times in a week. In case you wear your waist trainer only 1 hour a day then you should wash it 1 to 2 times in a week.

Some women wear a cotton T-shirt or tank top under their waist trainer. It means that the waist trainer does not touch their bare skin and that’s why it does not get dirty quickly. In such cases, you need to wash your waist trainer only once in a week.

Can you wash a waist trainer in the washer?

No, you cannot wash a waist trainer in the washer or washing machine. In my 10+ years of experience of using different waist trainers, I am completely aware of this fact. The waist trainers are not suitable for machine wash, dry clean, bleach, iron and strong detergent.

All of these can easily damage the waist trainer material and that’s why I am completely against these rough methods of washing & cleaning a waist trainer.

The only way to wash a waist trainer safely is washing it by hands. Whenever your waist trainer gets sweaty or dirty, you should wash it with hands using mild shampoo or body soap, lukewarm water and soft clothes/towels. You can do it by using the methods I have explained above.

How do you get the smell out of a waist trainer?

You can get the smell out of a waist trainer by putting it out in air for a few hours. The latex waist trainers are very effective to slim your waist size instantly and give an hourglass shape. But the people who buy latex waist trainers often complain about an unpleasant smell out of the box.

This smell is obvious with natural latex/rubber made waist trainers and you can get such smell out by placing the waist trainer in an open air area and leave it there for a few hours.

The waist trainers also have an unpleasant smell when they get dirty or too much sweaty. In such circumstances, you need to wash your waist trainer with wipe clean method to get the smell out of it and make it ready to wear next time.

How do I clean my sweaty waist trainer?

You can clean your sweaty waist trainer by washing it with wipe clean method. Firstly, get a bucket of lukewarm soapy water and two soft clothes or towels. Open your waist trainer and lay it straight on a flat surface, dip one towel into water bucket and wipe the waist trainer with the towel. Thoroughly wipe the waist trainer on both sides and then wipe it again with other towel dipped in clean water.

When you wear a waist trainer during workout or for a long period, it gets sweaty. You must wash your sweaty waist trainer before you get it into use again. Because the sweat may dry automatically but the bacteria will still be there and it can create skin irritation and skin infection.

How do you wash a waist trimmer?

You can wash a waist trimmer the same way you wash a waist trainer. Just get a bucket filled with lukewarm soapy water and dip a soft cloth into water. Place your waist trimmer opened on a flat surface and wipe it with the wet, soft cloth on both sides. Dip the other soft cloth in clean water and wipe your waist trimmer with it to remove all soap residue from it.

Once, you complete washing the waist trimmer, you need to hang it somewhere it can get fresh air. After a few hours in an open space, your waist trimmer will dry and get ready for its next use.
